Gupapuyŋu
Scripture Resources
There have been many small publications of the Scriptures in Gupapuyŋu over the years. Some in the first half of the 20th century and others in the 1960s and 1970s. Primarily these were selections from the gospels and Acts but also included the whole book of Jonah and Mark. In time these publications will be added to this site.
In more recent years until now, a Gupapuyŋu team has been working on a new translation of the New Testament and have about 50% drafted. The gospel of Mark may be published by end of 2024. For now Acts 1:8-11 was recently published locally and is included here.

General Language Information:
Gupapuyŋu is spoken in North East Arnhem Land. The majority of the speakers historically lived in Milimgimbi although nowadays, they can be found in other places in and around Arnhem Land.
Acts 1:8-11
(8) Djesu waŋana malthunamirriwala bitjarra, “Dhuyu-Birrimbirr yurru buna nhumalaŋgala, ga ŋayi yurru gurrupan nhumalaŋgu ganydjarr, ga yorruna nhuma yurru lakarama yolŋu’yulŋuwala ŋarrakalaŋawuy ŋunhala Jerusalem, ga Judea, ga Samaria. Ga nhuma yurru marrtji yolŋuwala bawalamirrilili wäŋalili, ga nhuma dhu lakaramana walalaŋgala ŋarrakalaŋawuynha.”
(9-10) Dhäŋuru beŋuruyi Djesuy lakaraŋala walalaŋgala bitjarrana, Godthu ŋanya märraŋalana balana djiwarr’lilina. Ga nhanukala malthunamirriy marrtjina nhäŋala ŋanya dhawuṯthunalilina. Bala gäpaḻaḻyuna ŋanya gungaŋalana Djesunha, ga nhanukala malthunamirriy mala bäyŋuna ŋanya nhänha bulunydja.
Baḏaknha walala marrtjina nhäŋalana bala garrwar’lilinydja, ga beŋurudhi märrma’ yolŋu maṉḏanha girri’-watharrmirri gana dhärrana galki walalaŋgalana.
(11) Bala maṉḏa waŋanana, “Nhuma yolŋu mala Galilee-puy, nhaku nhuma ga dhärra dhiyala ga nhäma bala garrwar’lili? Godthu märraŋalana Djesunha balana djiwarr’lilina. Ga ŋayi dhu roŋiyidhi räli biyaku bili yana nhakuna nhuma ŋanya nhäŋala dhawuṯthunalili.”
